SIS Hydration Tablets vs Zaca: Everything You Need To Know

SIS Hydration Tablets

As a Colorado-based company in the olympic capital of the country, we review SIS hydration tablets with everything you need to know, and compare it to our Zaca hydration chewables.

SiS Hydration Tablets

SiS, an acronym for Science In Sport, has been around since 1992 in London and proclaims itself the leader in endurance nutrition.

SiS Hydration Tablets are designed specifically to replace fluid and electrolytes lost during exercise. They contain a high dose of sodium, which is essential for maintaining the body's fluid balance, along with some other minerals and vitamins.

As an effervescent tablet, you drop SiS Hydration Tablets into water as a rehydration solution.

SiS Hydro Tablets Benefits

SiS Hydro Tablets are made to help hydrate your body. These tablets contain essential electrolytes required for an efficient hydration process and can be used before, during or after exercise.

SiS Hydro Tablets Benefits:

These SiS Hydro Tablet benefits can help support performance in exercise. SiS targets high performance athletes and competitors ─ which includes cyclists, swimmers, and runners.

SiS Electrolyte Tablets Dosage

Dosage for SiS Electrolyte is 1 tablet mixed and dissolved into 500 ml (16 ounces) of water.

When Should I Drink SiS Electrolyte?

SiS instructs you to take 1 tablet in water 3-4 hours before your event or competition, then another just before starting.

While exercising, SiS says to take 1 tablet with 500 ml (16 ounces) of water every hour.

How many SiS tablets a day? SiS recommends to not exceed more than 4 tablets per day.

SiS Hydration Tablets Ingredients

SiS Hydration Tablets are a good way to ensure your body is getting enough electrolytes, which is especially important during exercise. SiS promotes its high amounts of sodium for replenishment, 350 mg.

SiS hydration tablet ingredients include:

  • Chloride (Sodium Chloride and Potassium Chloride)
  • Sodium (Sodium Chloride and Sodium Bicarbonate)
  • Calcium (Tricalcium Phosphate and Calcium Carbonate)
  • Potassium (Potassium Chloride)
  • Magnesium (Magnesium Carbonate)
  • Vitamin B1 (thiamine hydrochloride)
  • Vitamin B2 (riboflavin 5 phosphate sodium R5P)
  • Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine hydrochloride)

Many of these ingredients are natural and beneficial, however, a few vitamins (B1 and B6) and a mineral (calcium) have concern which we outline below. In addition, the potential unhealthy combination of the sucralose sweetener and sugar is detailed too.

  • Vitamin B1 (thiamine hydrochloride) - Made from ammonia, acetone, hydrochloric acid, and coal tar ─ thiamine hydrochloride or synthetic B1 is absorbed less by the body due to things such as a crystalline non-plant structure.⁵
  • Vitamin B2 (riboflavin 5 phosphate sodium R5P) - It's a mouthful to pronounce, but must be noted that this B2 used by SiS is actually the most bioavailable form of the vitamin.⁶
  • Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine hydrochloride) - Pyridoxine hydrochloride is made from formaldehyde, petroleum ester, and hydrochloric acid ─ which is not highly absorbable and can instead inhibit natural vitamin B6 found in the body.⁵
While B2 used by SiS is one of the best forms, the synthetic vitamin B1 and B6 we see as a downside, and don't think it's optimal without being fully natural and bioavailable.
Some even wonder are SiS tablets good for hangover with the B complex, but if some of these vitamins are not bioavailable then the results would be questionable. In addition, you want high quality liver aid ingredients which are lacking in SiS hydration.

Overall, this information on calcium can be very alarming.

4. Sucralose

Sucralose, also known as Splenda®, is used as a safer and lower-calorie alternative to sugar.
Although, there are a few potential downsides of using sucralose, including negatively affecting gut health.

  • A study found sucralose to increase blood glucose and insulin levels.¹⁰
  • Research showed sucralose to alter the gut microbiome and beneficial bacteria by nearly 50%.¹⁰
Not to say that sucralose isn't better than sugar, but taking it every day could not be the healthiest for you body.

In our review and analysis, the combination of these downsides of SiS should be considered when taking the hydration tablets and also with regards to how much you use on a daily or weekly basis. These downsides including sugar content, synthetic vitamins, low absorbable calcium, and sucralose sweetener.
